Amanda Seyfried is sharing an insight into what she thought about her fellow actors when she auditioned for a role in “Mean Girls.”
Speaking to E! News at the 2023 SAG Awards, the 37-year-old actress recalled how starstruck she was when she saw Lacey Chabert and Lindsay Lohan, who played the roles of Gretchen and Cady, respectively, in the 2004 hit film, at the audition.
She also revealed her first impressions of Blake Lively, who was also present at the audition, gunning for the role of Karen Smith, which ultimately went to Seyfried.
The “Dropout” star shared in the exchange that she was in the room with the three actresses, adding that she “knew Lindsay and Lacey from their movies and TV.” She stated that she “was just a little bit like, ‘Oh my god. What do I do? I don’t belong here ‘cause I flew in from Pennsylvania or whatever.’”
When asked about her impressions of Lively, Amanda Seyfried revealed she “didn’t know” her. But, she said she “just remember thinking she was so gorgeous,” before adding, “...I was like, ‘She’s the perfect Karen.’ ‘Cause I was Regina in the room, but things happen.”
The outlet noted in its report that the “Les Miserables” actress auditioned for the role of Regina George, although the character ultimately went to Rachel McAdams.
Amanda Seyfried recently talked about “Mean Girls” during an interview with Vanity Fair, wherein the public seemingly learned more about Blake Lively’s audition for the role of Karen Smith.
In the exchange, published Thursday, the “Red Riding Hood” actress recalled that she had “flown out to L.A. for the first time with my mother,” adding that “it was very exciting.” She noted that she “met Lacey Chabert for the first time, and Lindsay Lohan was in the room, and Blake Lively was playing Karen, and then I was Regina.”
But, after the audition, Seyfried learned that she got the role of Karen, sharing in the interview, “...they were like, ‘We think you’re more correct for Karen.’”
In 2019, the casting director of “Mean Girls,” Marci Liroff spoke to Cosmopolitan UK and shared some details about the auditions and casting processes.
She revealed in the exchange that they “wanted Blake Lively, who hadn’t done the ‘Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants' yet, for Karen.”
Liroff subsequently recalled that the “Gossip Girl” alum “came down to the final tests but, at some point, some of the filmmakers said to keep looking,” before saying, “Amanda Seyfried had read for Regina and we really liked her but then Lorne (Michaels) suggested, ‘Why don’t we make her Karen?’”
