A style expert is sharing some thoughts about the ensemble Kate Middleton donned at this year’s BAFTA Awards.
Speaking to Express UK, Hallie Abrams, a stylist and expert on the matter from the United States, noted that the look the royal had for the event was a rare miss due to her black opera gloves.
The style pro explained that it “pains” her to say she “did not love” the Princess of Wales’ ensemble at the BAFTAs. She said that while she loves the idea of the royal re-wearing the Alexander McQueen white dress, the case is different for the gloves she paired it with for the night.
In its report, the outlet quoted Abrams from the exchange, saying, “I love the idea that she re-wore the gorgeous Alexander McQueen white gown and I also loved that she is backing a trend we saw on the red carpets of both the Golden Globes and Grammy’s this year, opera gloves.”
It continues in part, “However, I did not love how the black opera gloves looked with the light and airy white gown.”
The style expert later pointed out that, in her opinion, “the outfit did not feel cohesive,” before noting, “There was something missing to tie it all together.”
In the end, Abrams told the outlet that she adores all of the looks Kate Middleton has had for appearances, engagements, and events, adding that she feels like the royal “rarely misses.” Therefore, to say that she did not love the ensemble for this year’s BAFTAs, she said it makes her “sad” to do so.
Prince William and Kate Middleton made their red carpet debut as the Prince and Princess of Wales at the 2023 BAFTA Awards. It also marked their return to the event for the first time since 2020.
Glamour said the royal couple missed last year’s awards show due to “diary conflicts.” In 2021, meanwhile, the event was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sunday’s awards show saw the Princess of Wales re-wore her white one-shouldered Alexander McQueen white gown. She restyled the piece, though, which she wore to the BAFTAs in 2019, and updated the look with a pair of black opera gloves.
Elsewhere in the report from Express UK, published Monday, the outlet shared the pieces Kate Middleton wore in her ensemble, noting that she restyled the gown with the flowing drape replacing the floral applique detail.
The Princess of Wales partnered the white dress with velvet gloves from Cornelia James, with the publication stating that it was a nod to Prince William’s black velvet jacket that night.
As for the accessories, the royal is said to have donned a pair of dramatic and structural earrings from Zara, a Celese Jimmy Choo clutch, and a pair of Aquazzura Fenix Pumps, which she reportedly wore at the premiere of “No Time To Die” in September 2021.
