Princess Anne is allegedly upset with Meghan Markle because of how she made fun of the royal family’s tradition of curtsying to senior royals.
In Harry & Meghan, Markle revealed that she didn’t have any idea how to curtsy properly to Queen Elizabeth. So, when they first met, the Duchess of Sussex felt that she bowed too low.
To give viewers an idea of how she curtsied to the queen, Markle exaggeratedly bowed her entire body and laughed while doing so.
Now, New Idea is claiming that when Princess Anne saw how Markle made fun of her curtsy, she became upset.
“The Princess Royal was outraged that Meghan made a joke out of a highly respectful tradition. Anne is a stickler for protocol, so it’s no surprise this has gotten up her nose,” the source said.
Other than Princess Anne, Sophie Wessex also allegedly raised her eyebrows at the sight of Markle making fun of her curtsy.
“Sophie thought the whole thing was in bad taste, especially the curtsy chatter. She knows Meghan was trying to play the cute, silly American, but to her, it just came off as silly and a tad childish,” the source said.
Sophie also made headlines recently amid reports that Queen Elizabeth asked her to guide Markle when she first joined the royal family, but she refused.
Markle didn’t allegedly want Sophie and Queen Consort Camilla’s help because she felt that Prince Harry could teach her the ropes.
But during her interviews and even in Harry & Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex complained about not getting the support that she needed from the royal family.
Things even took a turn for the worse when Markle told the queen that she wanted to seek professional help amid her suicidal thoughts but they told her that it wouldn’t be a good look on The Firm.
And then there’s Princess Anne. The queen’s only daughter never developed a close bond with Markle. In fact, there are claims that Princess Anne knew very early on that Markle wouldn’t survive in her royal role.
Body language expert Judi James told Express that Markle tried to get on Princess Anne’s good side but she never succeeded.
“Anne’s eye gaze tended to be slightly more distant though, although Anne does tend to keep a more formal demeanor during public events,” the source said.
