Harry Potter fans are mourning the death of Robbie Coltrane, who passed away on Oct. 14 at the age of 72.
According to National Enquirer, Coltrane’s death could be his fault because he drank excessively and struggled to control his addiction to food and alcohol.
“Robbie loved living life to the fullest even if it meant bringing on an early death,” the source said.
During a previous interview, the actor revealed that he is used to drinking at least one glass of whisky a day.
“Booze is my undoing. I can drink a gallon of beer and not feel the least bit drunk,” he said.
Coltrane also revealed that he suffered from diabetes and osteoarthritis. And in 2019, he started using a wheelchair.
The actor also said that osteoarthritis put him in constant pain every single day.
But while it is true that Coltrane suffered from a slew of health issues when he was still alive, it’s not for certain that his death was caused by his excessive drinking and eating.
Last week, US Weekly revealed that the actor’s cause of death was multiple organ failure. More specifically, the actor died from sepsis, lower respiratory tract infection, and heart block before his passing.
And it is true that he was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and obesity.
Following his death, some of his Harry Potter co-stars paid tribute to the actor.
“[He] used to keep us laughing constantly as kids on the set. I’ve especially fond memories of him keeping our spirits up on Prisoner of Azkaban, when we were all hiding from the torrential rain for hours in Hagrid’s hut and he was telling stories and cracking jokes to keep morale up,” Daniel Radcliffe said.
Rupert Grint also said that he was heartbroken to hear the news of Coltrane’s passing. Grint added that no one else could’ve played the role of Hagrid other than Coltrane.
“Just as Hagrid was in the books and films Robbie was in life- warm, compassionate, and hilarious. A giant-hearted man who was still looking out for us even decades later. Sending love to his family. See you on the other side Bobser,” he said.
Emma Watson called Coltrane the most fun uncle she has ever had. She also said that the actor was very caring and compassionate toward her as a child and even when she became an adult.
