Matthew Perry recently shared some details regarding his struggles with addiction in his memoir.
And during his interview with Diane Sawyer, Perry also shared how his Friends co-stars helped him out during the most difficult times of his life.
According to the actor, Jennifer Aniston was one of the first people from the set who confronted him regarding his drinking. And when he asked how she knew, Aniston revealed that she could smell alcohol in Perry’s system.
Now, Us Weekly is claiming that the cast of Friends also had their own issues and demons to deal with back in the 90s until the early 2000s, but they still chose to help Perry.
“Jen saved his life without question. The cast of Friends all had their demons and temptations to manage, but for Matthew, it boiled down to getting a grip on his addictions. Jen saw that, and it worried her enormously,” the source said.
The source also claimed that Aniston reached out to Perry on multiple occasions to make sure that he was doing fine.
“She made a point to check in on him and always took time to listen to him, even when she was busy or had her own issues to deal with. It gave him the will to carry on and get healthy,” the source said.
Meanwhile, some people have been wondering why Perry only decided to share his story now after all these years. According to the tabloid, it’s because Perry realized that he wants to help others who could be going through the same thing.
“The primary motive of his memoir is helping people who are dealing with the trauma of addiction. Matthew wants them to know there is hope out there. He’s the living embodiment that miracles can happen,” the source said.
But while it is true that Aniston helped Perry out while he was battling with his addiction, it’s not true that the actress herself was dealing with her demons.
Back then, Aniston was just busy mending her broken heart following her divorce from Brad Pitt. But she and her other co-stars still managed to be there for Perry.
And for that, Perry will forever be grateful to all of them including Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer.
