Several years have passed since the public last saw Meghan Markle portraying a role on screen. But, following her and Prince Harry’s exit from their royal posts, many seemingly wonder whether she would return to her acting career.
In a new interview with Variety published Wednesday, the Duchess of Sussex revealed her response to the matter. She also shared her thoughts about Hollywood, as well as her views should one of her children pursue a career in entertainment in the future.
The former “Suits” actress stated during the exchange that she is “done” with acting. It came after the interviewer asked her whether she would ever consider going back to it.
But, while the former working royal noted that she would not return to the space, she countered to “never say never.” Nevertheless, she emphasized that her “intention is to absolutely not.”
As for her response should any of her children with Prince Harry want a career in the entertainment industry, Meghan Markle said she would say, “Great.”
She explained in the interview that “when you become a parent, you genuinely want your kids to find the things that bring them complete joy.” She added, “They’re our kids, obviously, and they’re part of a legacy and a tradition and a family that will have other expectations.”
The Duchess of Sussex continued, however, that she wants her children “to be able to carve out their own path.” She noted that “if it’s the entertainment industry, great,” before adding, “and also, good luck” as “there are so many people that will talk about what opened the door” for her children.
In the end, though, Meghan Markle emphasized that “it still takes talent and a lot of grit.”
Elsewhere in the exchange with Variety, the former actress asserted that “the industry has shifted quite a bit” since she was part of it. It came after she was asked what Hollywood means to her, both as a concept and a business.
The Duchess of Sussex consequently explained that “the entire culture has changed,” noting that “streamers have changed things.” She also claimed that the “zeitgeist moments,” where people would tune in or gather at the same time for a show, “doesn’t happen anymore.”
Meghan Markle has several acting credits under her name, with TODAY noting that she had a long career in Hollywood before meeting Prince Harry.
The publication, in its report published Wednesday, recalled that the former working royal had a childhood appearance on a Nickelodeon news program in the 90s. She also had minor appearances in films like “Horrible Bosses” and “A Lot Like Love.”
In 2012, the Duchess of Sussex joined the cast of “Suits” and played the character of Rachel Zane, which became her last and most significant role on screen.
