Ryan Reynolds has released new and surprising details about his upcoming film, “Deadpool 3.” Aside from its premiere date, he also revealed the addition to its cast: Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.
On Instagram, the 45-year-old actor posted a teaser video for the third installment of the film saga. In the nearly two-minute clip, he begins with an apology for missing Disney’s D23 conference earlier this month and follows it up with an “insight” on how he has been working hard to top the previous “Deadpool” films.
But, despite the “soul-searching” amid what he refers to as an “incredible challenge,” Reynolds says he has “nothing.” Even so, he reveals that they have an idea before Jackman appears in the background.
Entertainment Tonight, in its report covering the matter, quoted Ryan Reynolds from the teaser video, saying, “Hey, everyone, we’re extremely sad to have missed D23, but we’ve been working very hard on the next ‘Deadpool’ film for a good long while now.”
“I’ve had to really search my soul on this one. His first appearance in the MCU obviously needs to feel special. We need to stay true to the character, find new depth, motivation, meaning.”
It continues, “Every ‘Deadpool’ needs to stand out and stand apart. It’s been an incredible challenge that has forced me to reach down deep inside. And I… I have nothing. Yeah, just completely empty up here. And terrifying. But we did have one idea.”
Hugh Jackman consequently walks by behind him, leading Reynolds to ask him, “Hey, Hugh, you want to play Wolverine one more time?” - to which the actor responds, “Yeah, sure, Ryan.”
The video consequently ends with Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” playing in the background, with the subtitle that reads, “I will always love ‘Hugh.’”
A “Coming Hughn” teaser flashes, as well, before the “Deadpool” logo appears. Wolverine’s claws, however, slice it up, seemingly concluding the video.
In the last few seconds, though, Ryan Reynolds appeared to have included the release date of “Deadpool 3.” The text reads, “9.6.24,” revealing that the material will hit the big screens on September 6, 2024.
Following the “Adam Project” star’s announcement on social media, Variety shared that Shawn Levy, who worked with the actor on two other projects, will direct the third installment of the “Deadpool” saga.
It also reported that Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick returned to write the material, noting that they penned the first two “Deadpool” films.
Meanwhile, aside from Instagram, both Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman posted the same video, as well, on their official Twitter accounts.
