King Charles III named Prince William and Kate Middleton the new Prince and Princess of Wales. Following the announcement, which surfaced Friday, a royal insider shared some thoughts about how the pair has received the new titles and roles, which were previously held by Prince Charles and Princess Diana.
Speaking to People, a royal source stated that the Duchess of Cambridge “appreciates the history associated” with the new role. But, it is said that she will “understandably want to look to the future as she creates her own path.”
Kate Middleton and Prince William will reportedly “approach their roles in the modest and humble way they have approached their work previously.” Moreover, it is claimed that they are looking forward to “deepening the trust and respect of the people of Wales over time.”
King Charles III made the announcement Friday as he addressed the United Kingdom for the first time since the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
Reports noted that the new British Monarch recorded his speech in Buckingham Palace’s Blue Drawing Room, presumably after arriving in London from Balmoral earlier on Friday.
The magazine, in its latest piece covering the matter, quoted the King from his address, saying, “As my Heir, William now assumes the Scottish titles which have meant so much to me. He succeeds me as Duke of Cornwall and takes on the responsibilities for the Duchy of Cornwall which I have undertaken for more than five decades.”
It continues, “Today, I am proud to create him Prince of Wales, Tywysog Cymru, the country whose title I have been so greatly privileged to bear during so much of my life and duty. With Catherine beside him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the center ground where vital help can be given.”
Kate Middleton and Prince William first adopted the new titles of Duke and Duchess of Cornwall following the announcement of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing on Thursday. King Charles III, who previously held the role, automatically became the British Monarch, passing on the royal peerages to his eldest son, the new Heir Apparent.
Shortly after Buckingham Palace released the statement that the Queen had died, People recalled that the official social media accounts of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had updates with the profiles noting they belong to the “Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge.”
But, after the King’s address later on Friday, Kate Middleton and Prince William's accounts have since changed their bio descriptions, saying they are of “The Prince and Princess of Wales.”
