While ‘Captain America’ character played by Chris Evans looks extremely confident on-screen and seems paragon to millions of fans across the globe, even the 'superhero' suffered from anxiety. Yes, reportedly the actor refused the career-changing role of ‘Captain America’ many times before he eventually said yes. Thanks to Robert Downey Jr. for being of the reason that helped Evans to make this decision.
Evans, 38, went through debilitating panic fits, leaving no choice but to reject Steve Rogers' role which he portrayed in 2011 for Captain America: The First Avenger. Even after being proposed by a fat paycheck and cutting down the contract of nine movies to six movies only.
As per the reports, the prominent film character that he was offered was worried about making it happen on-screen which eventually led to spike his anxiety. The Snowpiercer the actor revealed his fear about getting judged on social media by saying, “during the proliferation of the internet age where all of a sudden you can read people’s reactions online.”
The Avengers: Infinity War actor is battling with anxiety issues since 2010 when he started shooting for Puncture, which revolves around a drug addict lawyer and battles his own demons. While shooting this movie he questioned himself if he was in the right profession and started having minor panic attacks.
Even though the actor kept rejecting the Marvel offering, the Marvel studio had faith in him and ensured him for being an outright superhero which he eventually accepted. Knives Out actor changed his tune after meeting the co-star who is also known as the backbone of the MCU, Robert Downey Jr.
The actor further consulted with several friends, family members, and a therapist who assured him to continue working and not to make fear-based decisions. Evans now agrees that he made the wonderful decision of finally taking the offer as he played Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four movie which was planned critically by Marvel in 2005 and also featured in the sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer in 2007.
The actor mentioned successfully conquering over his panic attacks which became much delight to his fans. He began his journey with television series in 2000 and the hard work has made him appear in film history's biggest superhero movie. Despite working in several superhero flicks, the actor has been seen in many other movies such as Cellular and The Perfect Score in the lead roles.
