Meghan Markle recently shared an insight into her relationship with her father and Prince Harry’s with Prince Charles. But, following the remarks, a royal commentator reportedly asserted that the former working royals no longer have a “way back.”
Express UK said the claims were from Russel Myers, who shared his thoughts about the Duchess of Sussex’s latest interview for New York magazine’s “The Cut.” As reported, he believes the former actress’s comments would be “distressing” and “severely damaging” to the Prince of Wales.
The royal commentator is said to have explained that the Heir Apparent offered the Duke and Duchess of Sussex “an olive branch on several occasions.” But, with the latest statements from the interview, he reportedly thought that “the bridges are already burned,” adding that “there will be absolutely no way back from them.”
Meghan Markle shared several things about her new life in the United States with “The Cut” for its cover feature, published Monday. At one point in the exchange, she talked about the relationships she and Prince Harry have with their respective fathers.
The former actress revealed, “Harry said to me, ‘I lost my dad in this process.’ It does not have to be the same for them as it was for me, but that is his decision.”
Following the publication of the interview, the statements sparked several talks and discussions among royal experts and commentators. They even reportedly caused a stir among royal circles, with one source close to Prince Charles alleging the comments hurt him, according to The Mirror.
As reported, the Prince of Wales was “thought to have been left less than pleased with the furore.” It was also noted that he reportedly got “hurt” by Meghan Markle seemingly suggesting the royal-born Prince had “lost” his father.
The future King would allegedly be saddened if his youngest son felt their relationship was lost. As added, “The Prince of Wales loves both his sons.”
However, Meghan Markle’s camp later clarified the comments she made in the interview for “The Cut.”
Royal biographer Omid Scobie set the record straight about the matter during a recent engagement, according to a separate report from Express UK. He was said to have denied that the Duchess of Sussex claimed Prince Harry lost Prince Charles.
The outlet quoted the “Finding Freedom” author, explaining, “There seems to be confusion in some headlines about this quote in ‘The Cut’ interview.’ I understand that Prince Harry is actually referring to Meghan’s loss of her own father, and Meghan is saying she does not want Harry to lose his.”
Apart from Scobie, a spokeswoman for the former actress also made clarifications about the remarks in question.
In a statement to BBC News, the rep stated that Meghan Markle was referring to her own father. Moreover, she was saying she hoped the same would not happen to Prince Harry.
