Shia LaBeouf has broken his silence regarding Olivia Wilde’s latest claims. He says he quit “Don’t Worry Darling,” refuting the actress’s assertion that he was fired.
The 36-year-old actor forwarded email messages to Variety, claiming he had sent them to the “Lazarus Effect” star on Wednesday and Thursday after her cover story for the magazine surfaced.
The outlet noted that reps for LaBeouf declined its request for comment on the matter when asked prior to the publication of the cover story.
In the email, the “Transformers” actor told Wilde that they “both know the reasons for [his] exit.” He emphasized, “I quit your film because your actors and I couldn’t find time to rehearse.”
Shia LaBeouf initially shared that he is “greatly honored” by Olivia Wilde’s “words on [his] work” and thanked her for them. But, he stated that he is “a little confused about the narrative that [he] was fired.”
In the latter part of the email the actor claims to have sent the “Don’t Worry Darling” director, he noted that firing him “never took place.” He continued that while he “fully understands the attractiveness of pushing that story because of the current social landscape, the social currency that brings - it is not the truth.”
LaBeouf later “humbly” asked Wilde to “correct the narrative as best [she] can.” He also wrote, “I hope none of this negatively effects (sic) you, and that your film is successful in all the ways you want it to be.”
People released a report on the matter, covering other parts of the said email. As noted, Shia LaBeouf shared some personal details elsewhere in it about his sobriety and becoming a father.
The publication quoted a part of the email, with the "Honey Boy" star writing, “I know that you are beginning your press run for [‘Don’t Worry Darling’] and that the news of my firing is attractive clickbait, as I am still persona-non-grata and may remain as such for the rest of my life.”
It continues, “But, speaking of my daughter, I often think about the news articles she will read when she is literate. And though I owe, and will owe for the rest of my life, I only owe for my actions.”
People later said that a rep for Wilde did not immediately respond to its request for comment.
It all comes after the “In Time” actress spoke about Shia LaBeouf’s reported firing from “Don’t Worry Darling” in a recent cover story for Variety.
Olivia Wilde, who noted that she is an “admirer of his work,” claimed that the actor’s process “seems to require a combative energy,” and “was not conducive to the ethos” she demands in her productions.
She also noted that it is her “job” and “responsibility” to protect the production and the cast.
