Michelle Branch announced her split from Patrick Carney on Thursday. She was arrested for domestic violence against her estranged husband hours after releasing the official statement.
Page Six has confirmed the arrest, taking place earlier that day. As noted, authorities were called to the 39-year-old singer’s home in Nashville for a possible domestic disturbance.
The publication said Branch admitted to slapping the Black Keys drummer “one to two times,” per the court documents. This is said to be the reason why she was arrested and booked.
The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the matter to the outlet, adding that the “Everywhere” singer was released later on the same day after posting bail of $1,000. She is also said to be facing her charge of domestic assault by offensive/provocative conduct in a hearing this November.
No official word has been heard yet from the singer's camp.
TMZ was the first to report the arrest earlier on Friday. It noted that, per their obtained documents out of Nashville, police were called on Thursday around 2 in the morning.
The outlet also reported that while Michelle Branch admitted to slapping her estranged husband, Patrick Carney “did not have any visible injuries.” Moreover, it was suggested that the singer was released from custody early “because she is breastfeeding” their 6-month-old child.
In a statement to People, the “Breathe” singer announced that she and her husband of three years are separating.
The magazine quoted Branch, writing, “To say that I am totally devastated does not even come close to describing how I feel for myself and for my family.”
It continues, “The rug has been completely pulled from underneath me and now I must figure out how to move forward.”
The “Spirit Room” artist later asked for “privacy and kindness” after noting that they have “such small children.”
Michelle Branch and Patrick Carney share two children, with the youngest being six months old. They welcomed their eldest child together in April 2018.
On Wednesday night, the singer made a bombshell post on social media, accusing her husband of cheating. news.com.au has a screenshot of the since-deleted tweet and incorporated it in its report about the split.
Meanwhile, Patrick Carney, alongside his rep, has yet to make an official comment regarding the accusations and the split announcement.
Michelle Branch and the 42-year-old musician first met in 2015. Reports said they got engaged two years later, about a year prior to becoming parents to their first-born child.
The two artists officially tied the knot in 2019.
