Steve Martin has a stellar showbiz career, which stretches back to the 1960s. But, more than four decades later, he appears to be hinting at his possible retirement from acting.
In a new profile for The Hollywood Reporter, the 76-year-old veteran comedian shared that he would not “seek other movies” or title projects. He noted that he will do so after the conclusion of his ongoing show, “Only Murders In The Building.”
Mail Online later quoted Martin, saying, “This is, weirdly, it.”
He also added that he does not want to do cameos in the future.
While the celebrity did not dwell on the details of his statement, he told the publication that he and Martin Short “were very happy just doing the live show,” referencing their ongoing tour, “You Won’t Believe What They Look Like Today.” He pointed out that “there may be a natural end to that” as “somebody gets sick, somebody wears out,” adding, however, that he “would not do it without Marty.”
Steve Martin and Martin Short have been reportedly friends for more than three decades. They have also repeatedly collaborated on projects over the years, with reports saying they go back to their first joint project, “Three Amigos,” in the ‘80s.
Elsewhere in the engagement with The Hollywood Reporter, the “Pink Panther” star revealed that there are several other things within the entertainment industry he will no longer consider. These include studio comedies, as well as doing political humor on the road with Short.
Martin explained that when it comes to comedy titles starring him, “It’s got failure written all over it.” As for the other, he stated that he does mind a “boo,” unlike his pal, Marty, so they “intentionally minimize any political context,” adding that they “want to lay down arms for a night.”
Meanwhile, a return to stand-up is said to have never been up for discussion.
Steve Martin began his career in the entertainment industry in the 1960s. Biography says he left college to be a comedy writer for “The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.”
The “Cheaper By The Dozen” actor has since written materials for several more titles, performed stand-up comedy for local clubs and television shows, and done comedy albums.
Martin has also starred in numerous films and movies since 1977 after starring in the short film he wrote, “The Absent-Minded Waiter.” Moreover, he has penned and authored books, with his 12th as an upcoming title.
The celebrity, who will turn 77 later this week, has also kept himself busy with his music. He has released tracks and albums, earning him Grammy nominations and awards.
