Will Smith has been laying low ever since the infamous Oscars slap gate incident happened earlier this year.

In its Aug. 1 issue, Globe claimed that the Aladdin actor is trying to repair his broken friendship with Chris Rock, but the latter is refusing his attempts.

“Will has been making groveling apologies and using mutual friends to try to get through to Chris. He wants to arrange a private meeting to discuss this thing man to man. But he’s getting nowhere. Chris doesn’t want to get together,” the source said.

The source said that other than repairing his relationship with Rock, Smith is also desperately trying to fix his failed marriage to Jada Pinkett-Smith.

The Gotham star did not side with her husband following the Oscars slap gate. In fact, during an episode of Red Table Talk, she said that she doesn’t condone Smith’s actions.

“His world has been turned upside down. His life’s a mess and he’s convinced that making up with Chris could turn everything around. But so far Chris isn’t biting and is openly trashing Will to their mutual friends,” the source said.

Following the controversial incident, Smith announced that he was quitting the Academy. And he was also banned from starring in movies for the next 10 years.

The award-winning actor also apologized for what he did to Rock. But several people from the industry refused to accept his apology.

Even if this was the case, the tabloid’s claims are still not true. There’s no proof that Rock refused to accept Smith’s attempts to reconcile with him.

And it’s not also true that the comedian is purposely bad-mouthing Smith when talking to their mutual friends.

By the looks of it, the tabloid just exaggerated their claims to make it seem as though there’s still tension between Smith and Rock.

But what a lot of people have seemingly forgotten is the fact that Rock did not blame Smith for what he did. In fact, in his statement, he said that it was his mistake to poke fun at Smith’s wife during his spiel. And he also apologized for his misconduct.

So, it’s highly likely for the two men have already repaired their relationship with each other. But this most likely happened behind closed doors.
