Amazon just announced that they are pulling the plug on Julia Roberts’ upcoming series, Charlotte Walsh Likes to Win.
Three years ago, the streaming platform announced that it will be working with Roberts on the project. So, the cancelation came as a surprise to the actress’s team and fans.
But a source told National Enquirer that Amazon is the one blaming Roberts for the cancelation of her upcoming project and not the other way around.
“The entire process with Julia was a nightmare, it was hell. Julia wasn’t just going to star in the series, she was also going to be the executive producer, meaning she was in charge. This is why she is getting the blame for the entire project falling apart,” the source said.
The source also claimed that people from Amazon eventually realized that Roberts is a much better actress than a producer so they expressed their doubts over her new role.
“Let’s just say she won’t be winning any awards. Warning: if Julia Roberts calls wanting to turn your novel into a TV series, don’t answer,” the source said.
Charlotte Walsh Likes to Win was supposed to be an adaptation of Jo Piazza’s best-selling novel. Following Amazon’s cancelation announcement, the author released a statement saying how difficult it has been to move forward with the project.
“This beautiful project went through development hell in the insane world of Hollywood and I won’t say any more than that because certain people get all touchy about it. We need to see more women fighting for us in pop culture and especially on TV,” Piazza said.
The author did not namedrop the person or people she was referring to in her statement, but the tabloid is convinced that it was Roberts.
In April, Roberts made headlines after she made a comment about rom-com that offended her fellow celebrities.
But during her interview with Vanity Fair, she explained that if the script was good, she would’ve moved forward with whatever project it was that she signed up for.
It’s unclear if Roberts experienced the same thing while working with Piazza and the people at Amazon for Charlotte Walsh Likes to Win. But the bottom line is that a decision has already been made and it doesn’t make sense to blame each other because of the cancelation.
