Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck officially tied the knot over the weekend. While the wedding shocked fans and followers as it made headlines, the actor’s middle name also became a “hot topic of conversation.”
Cheat Sheet said the wedding of the two celebrities brought up “a lot of name-related” conversations among some individuals. It comes after a photo of the pair’s marriage license circulated across media platforms, noting that it also had something to do with Lopez’s decision to take her husband’s name upon marriage.
The official document shows Affleck’s full name, including his middle name, Geza. It reportedly caused surprise among netizens, with a few saying they can’t get over it.
The publication later quoted some individuals’ statements via social media. One said, “My takeaway from this [wedding] is that Ben Affleck’s middle name is Geza.”
Another reportedly shared, “...[his] middle being Geza got me,” while a different netizen claimed, “[Lots of] focus on Ben Affleck and JLo getting married and not on the fact that [his] middle name is ‘Geza.’”
While the Batman actor’s middle name sparked a few discussions among some people, it is not entirely an unknown fact. As it happened, he even once talked about the background of it in front of an audience.
The Daily Beast previously unearthed the moment when Ben Affleck explained the significance of his middle name. It said it was during a speech he gave to the Writers Guild of America in 2015.
The “Accountant” star shared that his parents got the name “Geza” from their Hungarian friend. He said he did not seem to like it when he was young, especially during his fourth or fifth grade, causing him to throw a “huge fit” and call his parents the “worst namer of people in the world.”
But, when Affleck learned the story behind Geza, the friend of his parents, he stated that the name “has never been anything short of a tremendous honor to [him] since that day.” He also noted that he “came to understand and better identify with the suffering of others.”
As per the DCEU actor, the friend of his parents passed away around the time he was born, which was in the early ‘70s. He also said he learned from his mother that Geza was a “Holocaust survivor from Hungary,” adding that “he was the most exceptional person she knew.”
Ben Affleck continued that Geza “had leapt from a train during the Holocaust taking Jews to the death camps, and he want back to save several other people to try to break them out.” He later stressed out that “...men like him, brave and selfless, were what stood between us and the evil that people were capable of doing to one another.”
