Taylor Swift officially released the full version of her new single, “Carolina,” earlier on Friday.
People said that the material serves as the theme song for the upcoming film, “Where the Crawdads Sing,” which will premiere this July. It also noted that the artist first previewed the track in March, alongside the movie’s trailer.
The publication described “Carolina” as a “haunting ballad” that features the “chilling vocals” from Swift. While she “solely” wrote the title for the Reese Witherspoon-produced film, Aaron Dessner, who is a frequent collaborator of the 32-year-old songstress, produced the track.
Taylor Swift released her new single on various media platforms. On Instagram, she told fans and followers some of her insights regarding “Carolina,” including how she and Aaron Dessner worked on it.
In the caption of the post, which has now amassed more than 845,800 likes, the singer wrote, “About a year and half ago, I wrote a song about an incredible story… of a girl who always lived on the outside, looking in - figuratively and literally.”
Swift also shared that she wrote it “alone in the middle of the night” and “meticulously worked” with Dessner for the sound that they “felt would be authentic to the moment in time when this story takes place.”
On YouTube, the "You Need To Calm Down" singer dropped two "Carolina" titles through her official channel. One is referred to as an "official visualizer," which has already obtained more than 140,000 views, while the other is an "official lyric video," which has been viewed more than 245,00 times since its release.
Taylor Swift made a preview of “Carolina” when the trailer for “When the Crawdads Sing” surfaced earlier in March. On Instagram, she uploaded a copy of the official material and gave her followers some ideas about the music production.
In the caption, the 32-year-old artist revealed that she “got absolutely lost in” the book when she read it “years ago.” So, upon hearing about its film adaptation, she shared that she “wanted to be a part of it from the musical side.”
Swift continued that she intended “to create something haunting and ethereal to match [the] mesmerizing story” of the book.
The post, which features the over-2-minute trailer, has obtained more than 10.5 million views and likes.
Variety released a similar report on the matter, providing readers some additional information about “Carolina.” It said that the filmmaking team of “Where The Crawdads Sing” relayed other details about the track during a live roundtable on June 13.
Reese Witherspoon and Olivia Newman reportedly revealed that Taylor Swift recorded the title using only instruments that existed in the early 1950s, when the plot of the story takes place. Moreover, the artist did the recording only once, noting that she did so “the way they recorded songs at the time.”
The publication later quoted Newman, saying, “The first time I listened to it, I just started bawling and I said, ‘I don’t know what’s happening to me right now.’ I mean, I love singing along to Taylor Swift songs but I never cry like this.”
