Prince Harry and Meghan Markle didn’t allegedly expect to receive such a hostile reception during the queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
In its June 20 issue, Heat UK claimed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were aware that some Britons dislike them because they quit The Firm. However, they didn’t expect that some royal fans would also boo them when they arrived at St. Paul’s Cathedral.
“Harry and Meghan knew there would be awkward moments, but they had no idea how hostile the reception would be,” the source said.
The source also claimed that Prince Harry and Markle were disappointed with the reception that they received from the royal family.
“Being ridiculed like that was very hard for Harry to take. He tries not to read the negative things written about them, but there was no avoiding it. They’ve been accused of milking their fame and being money-hungry. There were plenty of cheers for them, too, but they know some of the public don’t want them to come back for the Jubilee and that was really hurtful,” the source said.
Additionally, the source insisted that Prince Harry and Markle were hurt over the Cambridges’ decision to skip Lilibet Diana’s birthday.
“For Meghan, it just strengthened her resolve to not come back. It seemed clear that Kate had no interest in playing nice with Meghan. And sad as it is, William feels the same. The view is that the Sussexes were lucky to receive any type of goodwill after the damage and embarrassment they’ve caused the monarchy. Neither side looks likely to back down,” the source said.
However, one should take the tabloid’s claims with a grain of salt. While it is true that the public’s reception towards Prince Harry and Markle wasn’t that warm, there’s no proof that the royal family did the same.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex didn’t have the opportunity to mingle with Prince William and Middleton during the Platinum Jubilee. But no one knows for sure what happened behind closed doors.
It’s not also true that Prince Harry and Markle are upset that the Cambridges’ skipped Lilibet’s birthday. After all, Prince William and Middleton had a valid reason for not attending the birthday bash and it was because they were in Wales for an official engagement.
