Kendall Jenner just agreed to pay $90,000 dollars for her part in the Fyre Festival fiasco.
The Fyre Festival was an event that was supposed to be held in 2017 and intended to promote the Fyre music booking app. It was promoted by so many people, celebrities, and social media influencers alike. The event, organized by the CEO of Fyre Media Billy McFarland, promised luxurious accommodations and a festival like no other. It was to be held at Great Exuma island in the Bahamas. But problems arose and in the end, the festival did not push through. All attendees instead were shown tents and given sandwiches as their food.
The fraudulent music festival fiasco led to not just documentaries by Hulu and Netflix but to the incarceration of Billy McFarland. Even celebrity influencers who advertised the said event have not escaped from the lawsuits. One of them is Kendall Jenner, who, according to the Daily Mail, has agreed to settle the lawsuit filed against her.
The model posted about the said festival on her Instagram page, and she was paid $275,000 to do so. She is not the only celebrity to be sued for the event, others including Migos and Emily Ratajkowski were also named in the lawsuit. All of them advertised the event one way or the other.
The lawsuit, according to Vanity Fair, was filed by Gregory Messer in order for his clients' investments to be recovered. He wanted to get the payments given to all the performers, vendors, etc. He cited specifically that Jenner's post did not indicate that she was actually being paid to advertise the said festival. Plus the fact that said that her GOOD Music Family was headlining may have led many to believe that Kanye West, his brother in law would be one of the performers for the festival, when in fact he was never a part of it.
Of course, the $90,000 is nothing to the model. She reportedly has a net worth of about $45 million. Of course, it is nothing compared to some other members of her family like Kylie, whose net worth is not estimated at $1 billion dollars. Her net worth blew up when she established her company Kylie Cosmetics.
Meanwhile, Billy McFarland, who has been jailed for his part in the fraud, recently asked to be released from prison due to the coronavirus pandemic and the risk of being in jail and contracting the virus led him to ask for a compassionate release, which was later denied.
