Princess Diana reportedly committed a huge gaffe while at the Chelsea Flower Show years ago.
While speaking with The Telegraph, RHS show director Stephen Bennett recounted the time when the Princess of Wales arrived at the event in her high heels.
Princess Diana attracted a huge media following that time but it was evident that she didn’t know much about gardening. The late royal was there to support a charity that she was a patron of.
However, it seems that she forgot the proper dress code when visiting a garden. Since she was required to step into the soil, Princess Diana’s heels got caught in the mud.
Bennett noticed how Princess Diana sunk into the lawn because of the shoes that she chose to wear. The show director was forced to remind Princess Diana that wearing heels is a no-no at a flower garden show.
Despite the huge gaffe, Princess Diana went on with her royal duties at that time. Graham Dillamore, the head gardener of Kensington Palace’s memorial garden, shared details from the late royal’s approach to the royal grounds.
He said that Princess Diana always complimented them for the work that they did. She was also very appreciative of the hard work that everyone put in. And whenever it was too cold, she would always worry about the workers and ask them to wrap themselves up.
Princess Diana was especially fond of the colors and brightness of the garden. There were times when she would ask how the workers picked the colors and how they came up with the color scheme.
Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom never claimed that she was a fantastic gardener. But she was fond of pink, yellow, white, and other pastel shades.
Princess Diana also made headlines this week amid claims that she would’ve supported Prince Harry’s decision to quit the royal family if she’s still alive.
While speaking with Express, royal expert Leslie Carroll said that Princess Diana would’ve also been proud of Prince Harry and the progressive steps he’s taking to protect Meghan Markle and Archie.
Caroll said that Princess Diana, Prince Harry, and Markle are all very physically expressive individuals. As such, they tend to wear their hearts on their sleeves. And their behavior is antithetical to the public persona.
Princess Diana also experienced what it was like to be confined to the palace walls. And she knew how difficult it was to follow royal protocols. As such, she would’ve supported Prince Harry and Markle’s Megxit.
