Liza Minnelli is allegedly struggling with dementia is down to her final days.
In its June 13 issue, National Enquirer claimed that Minnelli has started losing her cognitive abilities. And she now receives round-the-clock care at her home in Los Angeles.
A source claimed that Minnelli’s symptoms have also gotten worse shortly after she made her last appearance at the Oscars alongside Lady Gaga.
“Liza often fidgets, her hands shake, and she looks horrible. She sometimes doesn’t know who she’s talking to and has a hard time focusing. She’s had this problem over the last year, and I’ve heard it was one of the reasons she moved to New York to live permanently in Los Angeles,” the source said.
The source said that after her Oscars appearance, Minnelli has not gotten out of her home again.
“Liza rarely leaves the house anymore, so the Oscars was supposed to be such an important moment for her. It turned out horribly, though, when she was brought out in a wheelchair instead of being seated in a producer’s chair, as she was expecting. She didn’t want people to remember her that way,” the source said.
To make things worse, the source also claimed that Minnelli’s health problems caused her to lose a huge sum of money. And she’s already at a point where she’s almost completely broke. And the rest of what she has is being managed by her friend, Michael Feinstein.
Feinstein is allegedly controlling the people that can have access to Minnelli. And he couldn’t care less if they were her family.
“Some of them have been supported by Liza for many years, and they’re no longer receiving any help. I wouldn’t say she’s cut them off, but she’s not in a position mentally to stop Michael from doing so. It’s a tragic situation for everyone involved, but Liza has always trusted the wrong people,” the source said.
However, one should take the tabloid’s claims with a grain of salt.
There’s no indication that Minnelli is dying or that she is suffering from dementia.
In March, it was revealed that the singer was diagnosed with viral encephalitis for the second time.
In 2000, she also had the same diagnosis but his doctor confirmed at the time that she was recovering well.
Dr. Maurice Hanson told reporters that Minnelli was expected to be released from the hospital days after she checked in, according to ABC News.
