Nicole Kidman was reportedly missing in the montage video, featuring the career of Tom Cruise. Reports said it was played at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday.
Page Six said that the “Moulin Rouge” actress was “notably one of the only leading ladies not included” in the ten-minute tribute, per Variety. This is despite her starring in three movies with the “Mission: Impossible” star.
These films, where the former couple played the lead roles, are “Days of Thunder,” “Far and Away,” and “Eyes Wide Shut.” Although the video included clips from these materials, they only featured Cruise in scenes by himself.
What reportedly made it interesting was that other co-stars, even leading ladies, of the 59-year-old actor were seen on the video. These include Kirsten Dunst, Renée Zellweger, and Penelope Cruz, whom he dated for three years after his divorce from Nicole Kidman.
Reports noted, however, that while the 54-year-old actress was not in the career montage, Tom Cruise mentioned her during the Q&A segment of the event. It was specifically about a scene he did with his former wife in “Eyes Wide Shut.”
The “Top Gun” star stated that they all “worked together to find the tone.” He consequently named these persons, saying, “[Stanley Kubrick], Nic, and I.”
Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman first met on the set of “Days of Thunder” in 1989. The two celebrities began their relationship and tied the knot about a year after.
She Knows stated that the then-pair quickly became “Hollywood’s ‘It’ couple.” They then went on to work on another film project in 1992, “Far and Away.”
During the same year, Cruise and Kidman welcomed their first child through adoption. They adopted another child in 1995, and have since remained private about their children.
In 1999, the then-couple worked on their last movie, “Eyes Wide Shut.” Two years later, the actor filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise have relatively remained private about their personal lives, especially their children and marriage. But, in a 2021 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she looked back and opened up about her ties to her former husband during their 11-year marriage, according to People.
The “Practical Magic” actress was asked whether she was “too candid” about her and Tom Cruise’s love during their relationship. She responded that she was “young,” adding that she thinks she “offered it up.”
Kidman continued that there is a possibility that she has become a “bit more trepidatious.” Nevertheless, she noted that she is “always trying to be as open as possible.”
