It has been almost 17 years since the last movie was made so fans are naturally pleased to hear that Legally Blonde 3 is really happening and with some great writers to pen the script!
Reese Witherspoon, who plays the main character Elle Woods, is beyond excited once she heard who is going to write the third installment in the franchise. CNN reports that none other than Mindy Kaling of The Mindy Project and Dan Goor from 'Parks and Recreations' will be writing the movie.
While it was already announced as early as 2018 that the movie was in the works, it's not until this week that fans were able to get more details. The part is very special to actress Reese Witherspoon. It is not her first movie by any means. She had already starred in movies like Pleasantville and Cruel Intentions before she playing Elle Woods. But her character on Legally Blonde was so iconic and catapulted her into Hollywood stardom. She went on to star in many other films and even won an Oscar for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in Walk the Line.
But many fans will always remember her as the ditzy sorority blonde who followed her ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law School. By the second movie, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde, Elle had gone to Washington to work on Bruiser's Bill, a bill that would outlaw animal testing. By the end of the movie, it seemed that Elle had set her sights on the White House.
Now Showbiz Cheat Sheet is saying that this would most likely be the focus for the next film. Could Elle Woods become the first female president in the White House?
While there are no details yet on what the plot might be, it is still very much welcome news that the project is pushing through. But fans may still have to wait quite a while before they can see Elle on the big screen. With the coronavirus pandemic going on and Hollywood at a standstill with productions closed until now, it is hard to say when the movie will begin shooting.
Meanwhile, fans of Reese Witherspoon can just tune in to her other projects. She stars in the drama Little Fires Everywhere based on the New York Times bestseller by Celeste Ng. The drama stars Reese and Kerry Washington as the main characters. The two actresses do not only star but are also the executive producers.
