Did Kim Kardashian receive a “fake” lock of Marilyn Monroe’s hair from Ripley’s? This is the latest question many seemingly have following the latest claims about the matter.
People reported that an expert debunked the news on Friday, claiming that the lock of hair is “fake.” As noted, the statements were from Monroe historian Scott Fortner, who shared “receipts” to prove the claims on social media.
On Instagram, the expert explained that the lock of hair given to the reality star was “supposedly authenticated” by John Reznikoff, who founded the University Archives. They reportedly claimed that the hair in question was cut from the late model by hairstylist Robert Champion ahead of her “Happy Birthday” performance for the then-U.S. President John F. Kennedy.
Fortner continued that Champion was not the one who cut and styled Monroe’s hair for the 1962 event. As claimed, “it was actually the one and only ‘Mr. Kenneth’ [Battelle] who had the honors.”
The same expert, then, pointed out that there is an actual receipt from Lilly Dache Beauty Salon, reportedly proving Battele’s styling of Marilyn Monroe. He, later on, ended the post with, “just [whose] hair is [Kim Kardashian] actually sleeping with?”
The Instagram post has since obtained over 3,200 likes. The lengthy caption, explaining the claims, is accompanied with a video of the reality star, during which she received the supposed lock of hair of the late actress.
People said it requested Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! and John Reznikoff for comment. However, official statements have yet to emerge.
The video of Kim Kardashian receiving the gift from Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! first emerged last week on its official Instagram page. Elle reported that the clip features the reality star opening a present from staff, leaving her in “disbelief” upon realizing what she had received.
Ripley’s shared in the caption that it occurred during the SKIMS founder’s dress fitting at its headquarters. It also noted that their “team surprised her with a silver box that contained an actual lock of Marilyn’s iconic platinum hair.”
For her part, Kim Kardashian thanked them for the gift, noting that it was “so cool.” She even told Pete Davidson, who was with her during the fitting, that she would be sleeping with it “every night,” before saying sorry to her boyfriend.
Fans would recall that Kardashian wore Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress from 1962 for this year’s Met Gala. Reports noted that Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! museum currently owns the historic dress, which is worth about $4.8 million.
