Sebastian Stan is not a fan of method acting. He even likened it to a “very irresponsible” and “narcissistic” thing during a recent interview.
Cheat Sheet reported that the Marvel actor shared his thoughts on the matter in an engagement with the “In The Envelope: Inside the Actors Studio” podcast. He opened about method acting, noting that he does not believe in it.
The “Black Swan” star explained that he knows a lot of actors who do the method, “creating chaos for the purposes [of acting].” He added that some even create chaos “in the other people they are working with, in order to somehow give the scene this tension.”
Sebastian Stan consequently said that this practice reads to him “like a very irresponsible, narcissistic, kind of self-indulgent thing.”
While several actors, indeed, do the so-called method acting, the MCU actor is not the only one who does not believe in it. Many personalities, even veteran stars, reportedly “denounce” the said technique.
The same publication named a few, and the list includes John Malkovich and Mads Mikkelsen. As stated, they are some of the high-profile actors who previously slammed method acting, with the “Doctor Strange” star even calling it “bull****” and “pretentious."
Sebastian Stan has already had quite an extensive background in the world of acting. Reports said that he began his career in the early 2000s.
Apart from the tens of films he starred in in the last two decades, he also has a few television show and series credits to his name. These include “Gossip Girl” and “Once Upon A Time,” which aired before and after 2010, respectively.
But, despite all the credits, Stan seemingly gained wider recognition when he started playing the role of Bucky Barnes or Winter Soldier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe from 2011.
The 39-year-old actor’s last projects with Marvel were “What If…?” and “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.” He reprised his role as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier for both titles, which follows the events taking place after “The Avengers: Endgame.”
Sebastian Stan recently made headlines when he showed up at this year’s Met Gala. He “dazzled” in an all-pink ensemble, which captured the attention of many, according to Comic Book.
Aside from his attendance at the exclusive event, which took place on May 3, he has also reportedly captured the spotlight for portraying Tommy Lee in Hulu’s mini-series, “Pam & Tommy," that ran from February to March 2022.
