Netflix axed the Meghan Markle-planned animated series, “Pearl,” from Archewell Productions. Reports said it was supposed to be the labels’ first cartoon material under the multi-million deal with the streaming giant.
Following the developments of the story, Geo News said that it has already caught the attention of many royal watchers. As claimed, hundreds of individuals even “rejoiced” after learning about Netflix’s decision.
The publication did not, however, share the details of how people “celebrated” or reacted to the news. Nevertheless, it noted how a royal author seemingly took a dig at the Duchess of Sussex in a separate report.
It asserted that Angela Levin, who is said to be known for her criticisms toward Meghan Markle, took the time to make a remark about the cancellation of “Pearl” on Netflix.
On social media, she posted: “Wasn’t Pearl, the animated series that Netflix has dropped, to have been Meghan’s own story of being inspired by other women.” She consequently said, “life as a non-royal can be tough.”
The post has since amassed more than 2,600 likes with over a hundred comments. Several individuals in the comment section appeared to have poked fun at the Duchess of Sussex, with some even asserting that “Pearl” was only a “vanity project” of the former actress.
A few hours earlier, Piers Morgan, another known critic of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, also, made a post on Twitter regarding the news about Netflix axing “Pearl.”
The International News said that the television personality seemed “shocked” by the report. But, it reportedly appears that he took a dig, as well, on the Duchess of Sussex, saying, “Oh no! I do hope nobody rang the boss of Netflix to demand they fire her.”
Several netizens chimed in on the said tweet, sharing their thoughts and quips regarding the matter in the comment section. Some individuals told jokes about the former working royals, while others seemingly had arguments.
One Twitter user stated that Netflix did not drop “Pearl” because of Meghan Markle. A different user countered, however, that if the former actress is indeed “bankable,” the streaming giant would have likely kept the material.
The news about Netflix canceling “Pearl” first emerged on Sunday from Deadline, according to Page Six. Based on the report, though, it stated that the move is due to “budget cuts amid plummeting subscriber numbers.”
The publication added that several other planned animated series for the streaming platform got axed, as well. As reported, Netflix has lost nearly half of its value in the first three months of the year.
Meghan Markle and Archewell Productions have yet to make a comment about the matter.
