A month has passed since Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars. Following all that has happened, the former and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, are said to be “committing to therapy together.”
An unnamed source spilled the latest development in the controversy to Us Weekly. As claimed, the Smith couple are currently “figuring things out,” adding that they are “trying to salvage the best of a pretty horrible situation.”
No other details have been shared, though, regarding the matter. Also, no official word has been heard yet from the “King Richard” star and the “Gotham” actress.
Accordingly, it remains unclear whether the latest story is legitimate. The insider did not provide any proof to substantiate the claims, making the narrative speculative.
Even so, Jada Pinkett Smith previously released a statement, saying that their family “has been focusing on deep healing,” in consideration of “all that has happened in the last few weeks.” She, also, shared that “some of the discoveries around [their] healing will be shared at the [Red Table Talk] when time calls.”
As for Will Smith, a source spoke with People and alleged that the actor is on a “journey inward.” He was said to have traveled to India “for spiritual purposes, to practice yoga and meditation.”
The claims emerged days after witnesses spotted the “Aladdin” actor for the first time since the Oscars at a private airport in Mumbai, India. He was reportedly met with paparazzi, and, later on, had photos with a fan.
The public would recall that Will Smith went up the stage at this year’s Oscars to slap Chris Rock in front of the audience and the rest of the viewers from across the globe. He, also, yelled obscenities toward the comedian, telling him to keep his wife’s name out of his mouth.
It all came after the “Saturday Night Live” alum made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head, seemingly associating her with G.I. Jane. It has since been known that the actress is living with alopecia, although there have been reports, saying Rock did not know about the condition.
Will Smith has since publicly apologized to Chris Rock, the Academy, and the rest of the public who witnessed the infamous incident. He has, also, since resigned from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, which hosts the Oscars.
Upon announcing his resignation, the actor said in a statement that his behavior and actions were “shocking, painful, and inexcusable.” He shared, as well, that “change takes time,” adding that he is “committed to doing the work to ensure that [he] never again allow violence to overtake reason.”
