Princess Beatrice chose to wear an oversized headband and black veil at the Service of Thanksgiving for the late Prince Philip. Reports said that she seemingly broke a royal tradition after opting to don her staple accessory.
Express UK explained that facial veils are “considered a sign of respect” for the deceased and the wearer’s loved ones. However, black veils are traditionally worn only at a funeral of a sovereign.
The recent special memorial service for the late Duke of Edinburgh was neither a funeral nor he was a sovereign. Hence, the Princess of York’s choice of headwear broke the royal tradition.
The publication noted, though, that Princess Beatrice likely knows about this. Even so, she may have worn the elegant black facial veil “as a sign of respect.”
The royal-born Princess donned a fitted coat dress from Nonoo Lyons. It features “shoulder detailing,” a “gathered waistline,” and “statement bell sleeves.”
The Princess of York paired her sartorial piece with velvet heels from Gianvito Rossi. As for her head accessory, it comes in the tone of burgundy, alongside the layers of maroon flowers and the black facial veil.
Alongside reportedly breaking a royal tradition in terms of her outfit choice, Princess Beatrice, also, made headlines during the Service of Thanksgiving on Tuesday. Amid the event, she began to cry and even tried to hide it, according to a separate report from Express UK.
In a video, which surfaced on media outlets following the service, it shows, at one point, her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, and her sister, Princess Eugenie looking at her as she tried to hide her tears. In their row, the eldest York Princess sat beside her husband next to the youngest York Princess, as well as her husband, Jack Brooksbank.
Prince Andrew’s daughters joined several other members of the British Royal Family to honor the late Duke of Edinburgh at the event. Reports said that over 1,800 individuals gathered at Westminster Abbey for the service.
Princess Beatrice was, also, in attendance during the funeral of Prince Philip in April. Only 30 people were able to attend the service due to the restrictions amid the pandemic crisis.
She was with her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, as well as her younger sister and her husband, Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank. They, alongside the rest of the British Royal Family, witnessed when their late grandfather was lowered into the Royal Vault of St. George’s Chapel.
