Chris Rock has yet to break his silence about the infamous slap incident at the Oscars on Sunday. But, his younger brother, Tony Rock, answered some questions about the matter on social media.
People reported that the stand-up comedian defended his brother on Twitter. He stated that he does not approve of the public apology Will Smith posted on Instagram following the incident.
The response comes after a netizen asked him whether he approves of the apology. He only said “no” as he reposted the question on his account.
Tony, also, told followers on the same platform that he is “waiting” for the “King Richard” actor to reach out to his older brother. It was after a fan talked about Smith’s relationship with him in the industry over the years.
During the same period of engagement with Twitter users, Tony Rock seemingly clarified that he did not attend the Oscars, where Chris Rock presented an award. He shut down, as well, the claims about his brother, putting the matter to rest with Will Smith.
The publication noted that the matter comes as reports revealed Sean “Diddy” Combs had said that two celebrities reconciled after the show. But, a source close to the rapper clarified to the same outlet that the artist talked to Rock and Smith on separate occasions after the incident.
Will Smith apologized to Chris Rock on Monday afternoon. He issued a public apology on his verified account on Instagram.
The actor stated that he was “out of line” and “wrong” for slapping him across the face on stage during the awarding ceremony. He, also, noted that his behavior was “unacceptable and inexcusable.”
Smith shared, as well, that violence is “poisonous and destructive” in all of its forms. He added that he “deeply regrets” that his actions have “stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey” for everyone.
Later on in his post, the Best Actor winner, also, apologized to the Academy, its producers, as well as viewers. He concluded that he is a “work in progress” before signing his name.
Meanwhile, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released an official statement on Wednesday after the board of governors had a meeting. It apologized to Chris Rock for what he “experienced” and thanked him for his “resilience in that moment.”
The organization, also, apologized to the “nominees, guests, and viewers for what transpired during what should have been a celebratory event.”
