Bruce Willis is “stepping away” from his acting career “that has meant so much to him.” This comes after his recent diagnosis of Aphasia, which “is impacting his cognitive abilities.”
CNN said that the announcement came from his family on Wednesday. The actor’s daughter, Rumer Willis, with Demi Moore, was the first to release the statement on Instagram.
The eldest of the Willis siblings stated that their family wanted to share the matter with the patriarch’s “amazing supporters.” She, also, noted that “this is a really challenging time” for them, adding that they are so “appreciative of the [fandom]’s continued love, compassion, and support.”
Rumer Willis continued that they are “moving through” the challenge “as a strong family unit.” She, then, stated that they wanted to “bring [Bruce Willis]’ fans in” because they mean so much to him as he does to them.
In the latter part of the announcement, the actor’s daughter said, “as Bruce always says, ‘Live it up,’ and together we plan to do just that.”
The statement concluded with the names of his three daughters in his first marriage, as well his two younger daughters in his current marriage. The names of the actor’s former and current wives, Emma Heming and Demi Moore, who, also, shared the same post, are included, as well.
It remains unclear when Bruce Willis obtained the diagnosis. It is, also, not disclosed how he is currently doing.
A separate report from CNN, later on, shared some details and information about aphasia. As noted, it is a “devastating condition” that affects a person’s cognitive abilities, such as speaking, writing, and even understanding what others are saying.
The publication continued that how the condition affects a person varies on the “extent and site of damage in the brain.” As explained, some individuals who have aphasia “only lose their abilities to find or repeat words and phrases, but are still able to speak and be understood.”
As for the cause and treatment, it pointed out that the condition is “often the result of a traumatic brain injury.” Brain infection or tumor, as well as dementia, are, also, common causes, as per ASHA.
Several celebrities and industry personalities have since shared their love and support for Bruce Willis and his family. Sky News reposted some of their messages in one of its latest reports.
These individuals include “Rambo” actor Matthew Marsden, “Breaking Bad” star Dean Norris, film director M Night Shyamalan, and actor/producer Seth Green.
