Chris Rock and Will Smith will reportedly work out their issues after the “altercation” at the Oscars. Page Six has “exclusively learned” about the matter from sources following the now-infamous slap.
As claimed, the two celebrities are expected to attend the annual Vanity Fair Oscars bash. However, it remains unknown whether they will make amends before, during, or after the event.
The same insiders, also, told the publication that security began “strategizing” moments after Smith “smacked” Rock on stage. This comes as the former had more than 20 attendees in his party.
Will Smith won the Best Actor award during the event. He delivered an emotional speech, including an apology for what had happened earlier that night.
The publication noted that the actor “vaguely alluded” to the incident and apologized to everyone, except Chris Rock. He said he wanted to “apologize to the Academy” and his “fellow nominees.”
Smith continued that he was “not crying for winning an award.” He explained that his tears were not about it as it was “about being able to shine a light on all of the people.”
The actor, later on, thanked the Academy for the “honor.” He, then, ended his speech with a quip, saying he hopes they will invite him back to future events.
The whole debacle began after Chris Rock made a joke about Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, being bald. He quipped, “Jada, I love you, ‘G.I. Jane 2,’ can’t wait to see it.”
Reports said that the actress, who has been suffering from alopecia and vocal about it, rolled her eyes upon hearing the joke. Consequently, her husband walked up to the stage and hit the comedian across the cheek.
The slap appeared to have shocked the “Grown Ups” actor, although he kept his cool. He even seized the moment to make another joke, saying, “Will Smith just smacked the s*** out of me” before defending his earlier quip: it was “just a ‘G.I. Jane’ joke.”
Smith, who was already back to his seat, repeatedly shouted, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth.” This caused the audience to go silent, leading Rock to assert that it “was the greatest night in the history of television.”
No official statements from Will Smith and Chris Rock have yet to emerge. But, CNN and other publications have already reached out to the Best Actor winner’s publicist for comment.
Meanwhile, Sean “Diddy” Combs, who took the stage after the infamous incident, stated that Smith and Rock would settle things “like family” later.
