Princess Diana, reportedly, discovered two things about Camilla Parker Bowles while she was on a honeymoon with Prince Charles.
Prior to the Prince and Princess of Wales’ royal wedding, the latter was already aware that something was going on between Prince Charles and Camilla. But Princess Diana got the confirmation that she needed after she tied the knot with the heir to the throne.
While on their 14-day cruise onboard the Royal Yacht Britannia, Princess Diana wrote on a piece of paper that the honeymoon was the perfect opportunity for her to catch up on sleep.
Her cryptic statement suggested that she and Prince Charles didn’t have plenty of alone time together because they were accompanied by 21 naval officers, over 200 crew members, and more.
In the book “The Duchess: The Untold Story,” royal author Penny Junor said that Prince Charles and Princess Diana were consulting their diaries when a photo of Camilla fell out of the former’s pocket.
On another occasion, the royal couple was scheduled to attend a formal event. Princess Diana noticed that Prince Charles is wearing a pair of gold cufflinks with two Cs interwoven on it. The late royal immediately knew that the cufflinks were a gift to Prince Charles from Camilla.
Prince Charles and Princess Diana had problems within their marriage that didn’t have anything to do with Camilla. For instance, the royals were very different from one another. They didn’t also share any interests other than their love for their sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.
Princess Diana hated Balmoral but Prince Charles had the best time there with his family. Princess Diana didn’t like drawing and painting, but these are activities that Prince Charles enjoyed.
In the book “Diana: Her True Story – In Her Own Words,” Princess Diana also talked about her marital problems. She told royal author Andrew Morton that Prince Charles struggled to accept the fact that she suffered from bulimia.
Since Prince Charles couldn’t understand what Princess Diana was going through, the late royal decided to keep things to herself.
Princess Diana also struggled with her insecurities. There were times when she felt that she was not good enough for Prince Charles. And the Prince of Wales’ affair didn’t help Princess Diana at all.
In the end, Prince Charles and Princess Diana announced their separation 11 years after they tied the knot. And four years after they separated, their divorce became official.
