Robert Downey Jr. previously revealed how he felt about his exit from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When asked about “Iron Man 4,” he said he was “kind of bombed out” that the franchise does not have any more plans.
Cheat Sheet recalled that the actor made the assertions in one of his previous interviews. The discussion of the matter came amid the then-ongoing rumors and speculations about his return for another “Iron Man” movie.
But, RDJ set the record straight and revealed that there would be no fourth installment to the “Iron Man” film series. Despite feeling disappointed, though, he emphasized that Marvel maybe has “bigger fish to fry,” adding that he “trusts their overall vision.”
In a 2020 interview, as well, Robert Downey Jr. noted that he was “ready to move on” from his role as Iron Man. He told Hindustan Times that he had done all he could for the character, thus, he “can do other things now.”
The “Sherlock Holmes” star, also, shared what he has since been feeling after realizing the end of his role as Iron Man. He stated that it “is all part of the journey, and things end.”
“I am fortunate and eternally grateful to have wound up where I have.”
Meanwhile, Robert Downey Jr. recently reflected on his role as Iron Man, especially the last moments of the character in “Avengers: Endgame.” The List reported that he looked back on the “historic” scene and revealed the different “alt lines” he had before snapping his finger to end the battle with Thanos.
Instead of the iconic line, “I am Iron Man,” RDJ said that he tried other ideas, including “You are so f***ed” and “Oh, snap.” However, he chose not to go with these lines and admitted that they felt “too smart-a**.”
The actor, then, gave the credit to one of the “great editors” or writers of the movie who suggested they should go “right back to the first film, and have his dying words be the words of his origin.”
“Avengers: Endgame” premiered in 2019 and it marked the end of Robert Downey Jr.’s era in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite now being globally known as Iron Man, he is set to appear in a variety of roles for his upcoming films.
Screen Rant listed some of the projects RDJ has been working on after his stint on the MCU. These include “All-Star Weekend,” wherein he goes back to his comedic roots, “Sherlock Holmes 3,” which remains on hold, the untitled John Brinkley biopic, and the remake of “Pinocchio,” taking the role of Geppetto.
