Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were recently questioned as to why they have not released any material for Spotify.
It’s been two years since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a multi-year deal with the streaming platform. But it was only in December 2020 that they released a podcast on Spotify.
Now, Prince Harry and Markle released a statement expressing their concerns about the COVID-19 misinformation that is spread on the platform by the likes of Joe Rogan, who also has his own podcast on Spotify.
“Since the inception of Archewell, we have worked to address the real-time global misinformation crisis. Hundreds of millions of people are affected by the serious harms of mis and disinformation every day. Last April, our co-founders began expressing concerns to our partners at Spotify about the all too real consequences of Covid misinformation on its platform,” Prince Harry said in his statement.
He also revealed that they already contacted Spotify and have discussed possible options on how they can use their platform to help address the ongoing pandemic.
But despite their concerns, Prince Harry and Markle said that they will continue to work with the streaming platform but they did not say when their new project will be released.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex did not also say that they put their plans with Spotify on hold because of their concerns, but it only makes sense if this is what they did.
Shortly after, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek also released a statement saying that they will be more careful and will start implanting a new warning that will direct users to a data hub of facts about COVID-19.
“Based on the feedback over the last several weeks, it has become clear to me that we have an obligation to do more to provide balance and access to widely-accepted information from the medical and scientific communities guiding us through this unprecedented time. I want you to know that from the very first days of the pandemic, Spotify has been biased toward action. We launched a variety of educational resources and campaigns to raise awareness and we developed and promoted a global COVID-19 Information Hub,” they said.
Meanwhile, royal fans are also waiting for Prince Harry and Markle’s first project with Netflix. The couple also signed a multi-year deal with the company but have not released any project until today.
